Maybe this time next year you’ll be an escape room millionaire?
What is Only Fools and Horses?
- It’s the sitcom your parents/grandparents used to watch.
- It’s the sitcom whose clips you love watching on YouTube.
- It’s an entire British institution.
What do you think?
At least one poll said it is the best British sitcom of all time.
And for us, it’s a source of inspiration, for escape room quotes.
"Trigger with a computer? Do me a favour, he's still struggling with light switches.”
From: Season 5, Episode 8 - The Frog's Legacy.
That’s how Rodney described Trigger’s computer skills.
And that’s the kind of intel on your team mates you need to take part in an escape room game.
You need to know who’s talented at what kind of activity, so team members can tackle the kind of puzzle they’re good at.
"If you had been in charge of The last supper it would have been a take away."
From: Season 1, Episode 1 - Big Brother.
Remember the bit where Del was trying to remind Rodney about all he’d done for him since their father left, saying that Rodney always used to have the “finest food that was going”?
That was how Rodney described Del’s alleged culinary exploits.
So, even if Del didn’t have the time or the skills to cook dinner himself, he always used to arrange for the food so they didn’t have to go hungry.
That’s the kind of can-do attitude you need to succeed in an escape room game.
If you don’t know how to do something, improvise!
“What, another one? Stone me, Del, you’ve been engaged more times than a switchboard.”
From: Season 4, Episode 1 - Happy Returns.
Rodney was seeing a girl around nineteen years old...and Del used to see her mum around nineteen years ago!
You can understand why Del had to tell Rodney about that.
And that was how Rodney responded.
Now, we don’t suggest you adopt Del’s dating habits, but romance CAN be in the air inside an escape room.
You could organize an event at an escape room, and events could maybe culminate in a proposal or a ring?
"You've always been the same, even at school. Nothing but books, learning, education - that's why you're no good at snooker."
From: Season 6, Episode 1 - Yuppy Love.
Del wants to be Gordon Gekko, the “real tough, high-flying whiz -kid” from Wall Street.
And accordingly he’s all dressed in a shirt and tie, sporting braces and smoking cigars with a cigar holder.
On the other hand there’s Rodney trying to study for his diploma.
True to form, Del blew off Rodney’s scholastic efforts with that quote.
Now, we don’t encourage you to give up any efforts you may be making to acquire degrees and diplomas.
Cracking the puzzles and tasks inside an escape room rarely requires you to know any facts or trivia apart from those the average Joe can be expected to know.
Almost the facts you need to know to proceed through an escape game will be available within the game itself.
So it’s less bookish knowledge and more mental aptitude and skilled hands that you need to successfully escape.
"There's no point in running away. Running away only wears out your shoes."
From: Season 2, Episode 3 - A Losing Streak.
Del is down on his luck.
He’s been gambling - and losing - heavily over the past few days.
He’s in danger of losing the shirt off his back, when Boycie challenges him to an all-or-nothing game.
Rodney’s concerned that Del Boy’s luck isn’t going to improve...and Del stirred him up with that quote.
Now of course in an escape room you’re never in any actual danger.
There may be that escape game that overwhelms you.
In which you feel you don’t stand a chance of winning.
But does that mean you give up?
Nope, you keep at it.
Keep moving forward.
Even if you don’t win, you had a heck of a good time!
